What's New in Agridata 9.87.02

To view the current version click on the 'Help' menu then click the 'About Agridata' option.

When installing the Agridata update from a cd, if the Operating System is Windows XP with Service Pack 2 the .NET Framework 3.0 will be installed (Windows Vista already has the .NET Framework 3.0 installed). After the framework has been installed you will find that you have a new printer installed called the Microsoft XPS Document Writer. When printing reports if you select this printer it will allow you to save the report as an XPS file (this is Microsoft's equivalent of the PDF file). This file can then be viewed or printed by anyone that can read an XPS document. Any computer with the .NET Framework 3.0 installed, or running Windows Vista will be able to view or print the file. The .NET Framework 3.0 can also been downloaded using Windows Update. Once an XPS file have been created the file could then be emailed or saved to cd and be sent to your Accountant or Trading Standards for example. NOTE: The Microsoft XPS Document Writer is not compatible with Windows 98 or Windows ME.

We are now making Agridata updates available online, with new releases every couple of months or so. If you would like to receive an e-mail with a link to download the online update when it's released, please send an e-mail to Updates@agridata.co.uk with the word Subscribe in the subject and your surname, postcode, holding number, telephone number and Windows version in the body of the e-mail. Once you have subscribed whenever an update is made available, an e-mail will be sent to you with a link to download it. NOTE: There is no additional charge to receive online updates, but your support contract must be paid up to date. You will continue to receive updates on CD, but the online updates will be more frequent. You only need to subscribe once.

'Reports on Cattle'. If you recorded a Farm Assurance number against purchased cattle, the simple and detailed printed reports will show 'FA' beside the animal to indicate the animal was purchased from a Farm Assurance holding, so doesn't need to stay on the holding for 90 days.

'Movements and Premium Reports' 'Scottish Beef Calf Scheme' is a new report listing all the animals that have been had SBCS claimed. As with the SBCS claim option on the forms menu, it will only show when the country on the 'Record your Company Details' screen is set to Scotland.

'Sheep reports' 'Flock Record' the new sheep inventory report has been added and includes the haulier’s transporters name and vehicle’s registration number, and if moved from market the lot number.

'Calving History' the calving history report now allows the user to select All Calvings whether assisted or not and the report can now be sorted by calf, sire or event.

'Diary' is a new report, it allows the user to view and print the diary entries created using the diary option on the Setup menu. You can choose the type of entry to include and the which date period that the diary should cover.

Forms Menu

'Check BCMS Records' Again the BCMS web services can be used to cross check the cattle currently on the holding. Choose 'Click Automatically get data from BCMS web site’ and a snapshot of the current cattle on the holding. Then choose, ‘Check cattle from the downloaded file against Agridata'. This will show missing, wrong dates of movement, and any other data that doesn't match. The report can be printed, or viewed on screen. Other options as previously displayed are available once the data has been downloaded.

'CTS Movements'. This allows the movements of cattle onto or off the holding to be sent to BCMS. Each record is sent in turn, with a receipt returned for every animal, recording the reason why it failed, or was accepted. Failed movements can be reapplied for later, as sometimes the internet is busy, or DEFRA is updating their system or running their anti virus software ( slowing down the data they can receive). There are two main choices, ‘Send’ and ‘Get Results’ as it is done in two stages. Click ‘Send’ to apply for the movements to BCMS and click ‘Get Results’ will receive movement information from BCMS, Agridata will be updated to record it as either failed, accepted or awaiting reply. Every time you restart Agridata, it will remind you at start up that there are still movements to be resent, as the three days to complete this are still in place.

'CPP12 Passport Application'. As with the movements, the CTS passport application facility will link to BCMS for the application of passports, (and if applicable) giving you a reason why a passport has not been allowed. The safety checking is built into Agridata to allow all births and applications to be done as before. Choose ‘Ok Apply’ with the summary of the calf, DOB, age in days, dam etc on screen prior to applying .

'Cattle Statement Report'. A new report has been added to Agridata to assist in checking BCMS Cattle Statements.

'Extensification / Year End' report has been renamed to 'Cattle on Holding / Year End'. The report itself has not been changed.

What’s New in Agridata 9.84.00 (23rd August 2004)

Setup Menu

'Backup / Restore' 'Backup Data to Removable Drive (e.g floppy disk)' Windows XP users with a CD writ-able drive can now backup their Agridata data to CD. To use this feature select CD from the drive list, click on the Backup button and follow the instructions. We recommend you use at least three CD-R CD's. Label them one to three and use a different one each time you backup. When backing up to CD, make sure the file is written to the CD. To restore the data from the CD, use the 'Restore Data from Removable Drive (e.g. floppy Disk)' option and select CD from the drop down list. Agridata will then allow you to select your CD-ROM drive and file you wish to restore. NOTE: To use this feature Windows XP cd recording must be turned on.

'System Setup' 'Record your Company Details' You can now specify if any of your holdings are linked. When you electronically apply for passports, or sell, or purchase animals, if the animals are recorded at a linked holding Agridata will use your main holding number instead of the linked holding number. Your movement records will still show were the animal was moved to, even if it's a linked holding.

You can now display the menus in Welsh. To turn on Welsh menus click on the 'Options' tab and tick the display Welsh menus box.

You can now enter a breed code for sheep. This is used when data basing sheep using the Husky EID reader.

Agridata with (800) after the version number now support Windows XP themes making the program look like a Windows XP application. This can be turned off on the options screen.

On the options tab there is a new option to warn you if try to record official movements of cattle or sheep off the holding (send to market, sales etc) when you are still within a standstill. Agridata works out the last movement date on to the holding, and if necessary will display a warning message. This warning is turned on by default and is set to six days, however it can be changed to any number of days on the options tab. Agridata will display a warning even if the animal is being moved to designated slaughter market, slaughter house, or if the animal was previously moved onto a different holding. Because Agridata looks up the last movement on date, a back dated sale or movement off the holding will not display a warning. To turn this warning off, tick the 'Turn off standstill warning' on the options tab.

The company screen has also been improved.

'Data Logger (EID)' is used for recording EID actions and events. You can now use the Husky to database cattle and sheep. This involves reading the EID tag with the Husky, then entering it's ear tag and management tag (optional). The breed and animal type can then be entered or selected from a list. Once uploaded the details can be checked and the animals added to Agridata. To database sheep there must be at least one individual recorded flock on Agridata. A breed code needs to be added for each breed type in the flock, this is added in the company setup screen.

The animals age, type and last weight can now be displayed on the Husky and Anilog. You can now define veterinary actions using products already recorded in the medicine cupboard. Agridata will automatically reduce the required amount from the medicine cupboard when data is uploaded from the readers.

PD (pregnancy diagnosis) can now be defined on the action list and recorded against an EID animal. Agridata will then update the records to shown the animals are in-calf and due on a certain date, or mark them as barren.

When recording new born animals you can now select the flock the animals are added to. The breed can also be selected to save having to record the breed against each animal recorded.

You can now add a sheep breed code to the BORN MALE and BORN FEMALE EID actions to save having to selected a breed when recording the birth in Agridata.

If you record the REPLACE EID TAG action against an unknown EID tag using the Anilog 2050, after uploading into Agridata you will be able to select the animal which needs it's tag replaced.

Many other improvements have also been made.

'Pedigree / Dairy Herd' 'Import NMR Data' 'Import NMR Herdstream Yield Data' is a new option which imports data from a NMR Herdstream file. The option imports the following data. Yield, cell count, butter fat, protein and lactose. NOTE: For Agridata to record the data against the correct animal the animal's management tag must exactly match the NRM line number / freeze brand.

'Cattle Management Groups' 'Move Animals from one Group to Another' now displays the animals date of birth when selecting cattle to move groups.

Males, Heifers, and Cows Menu

'Movements' 'Purchase Cattle' option now allows you to record the herd suffix for that group of animals purchased.

'Change Sale Details for Sold Cattle' option has been updated. Using this option you can undo cattle sales, change the date the animals were sold, and change the sale details e.g. price, weight, grade, fat, commission etc.

Cows

'Breeding' 'PD Test' 'Update cows with test results' option now allows you to sort the animals in official tag or management tag.

'Dairy Cows' 'Dairy Statement Report' is a new report showing the dairy cows yields and other information between the specified dates. The report can display all dairy cows, or top, or bottom dairy cows based on yield, or cell count, or butter fat, or protein or lactose.

'Sheep Movements (CI)' 'Purchase Sheep' option has been updated and improved.

'Sheep' 'Record Lambings' now allows you to record how dead lambs were disposed of.

'Change Flock History (C)' option has been updated and improved making it a lot easier to use. You can now change any of the flock event records e.g. purchases, sales, losses, lambings, sheep retained etc. If the number of animals are changed Agridata will automatically update the current flock numbers. Note: If Agridata is unable to change the current flock numbers a warning will be displayed and the number will have to be changed manually using the 'Update / View Existing Flock Numbers (CI)' option on the sheep menu.

Reports Menu

'Reports on Cattle' 'Current Cattle Details' is a new option. It takes the place of the 'Males', 'Heifers', 'Sucklers', 'Dairy Cows' and 'All Cattle' options. You can select which type of animal you would like to report on. The report can be rerun by clicking on the 'Run the report again' button after it has been viewed. This saves having to re-select the menu item each time you wish to view the report. The report option will also remember the last run report settings. You can now print out a TB 52A (Tuberculin Test Chart) report listing all the animals you has selected using the Current Cattle Details option. Please check with your Vet that they will accept the printout.

You can now sort the list of cattle when you select a list of cattle in a management group or sub group. The list can be sorted by official tag, management tag, name, breed, age or purchase date.

Now when you export a file e.g. Excel spreadsheet it only includes the animal's main details, and if it's a spreadsheet file the column headings are more descriptive. If you are using Windows XP the files are exported to a folder in 'My Documents' 'Agridata Export' 'Reports'. Otherwise the file is exported to the folder where Agridata is installed.

Users with a Pocket PC (personal computer) running pocket Excel, will be able to transfer the export file to their device and view the information away from their main computer.

'Reports on Cattle' 'Weight Gain Reports' The weights gain reports now lists the animal's breed on screen, and on the printed report . When the report is listed in official tag order it now ignores the check digit.

'Dairy Statement Report' is a new report showing the dairy cows yields and other information between the specified dates. The report can display all dairy cows, or top, or bottom dairy cows based on yield, or cell count, or butter fat, or protein or lactose. NOTE: Butter fat, protein and lactose can only be imported from NMR Herdstream.

'Movements and Premium Reports' 'Suckler Premium Report' at the end of the report when print previewed, or printed it now displays the number of animals claimed between the specified dates excluding replacements.

'Veterinary Reports' 'Sheep Flock Veterinary Report' now display the batch number when viewed on screen.

'Sheep Reports' 'Reports on Individual Sheep' 'Current Detailed Individual Sheep' is a new report showing detailed individual sheep information.

Forms Menu

'Check BCMS Records' option now displays the date and time the selected file was downloaded from the BCMS. This reduces the risk of selecting an old download file when comparing the details on Agridata and the BCMS.

Find an Animal

'Find Cattle' option now allows you to view the animals details by double clicking on the animal in the grid (Windows 98 and above users only). This saves clicking on the animal, then clicking on the 'View the selected animal' button. The screen listing the cattle has also been enlarged to allow more cattle to be viewed at a time.

'Find Individual Sheep' now if the animal has been recorded sold, died or missing sheep an undo button will be enabled to allow the animal to be put back into the flock.

What’s New in Agridata 9.40.00 (24th September 2001)

We have just released the latest update, V.9.4. A number of new features are included, such as a new back-up program which compresses your data more efficiently, more efficient memory management, a reduction in disk space used, improved sheep recording system and improvements to the suckler cow premium claim program. There is also a new feature where should you encounter a problem, Agridata will email your files to us so that we may assist you. Agridata automatically compresses all your data and sends it via an email to us for further analysis. Below are some of the changes incorporated in our latest version:

SetUp Menu

‘Backup/Restore’ -Both the Backup and Restore options have been improved. You can now backup to any removable drive (except a CD) using the Backup to Floppy option.

‘System Setup’ ‘Record Your Company Details’ option now has most of the main options for setting up Agridata, for example General, Holdings, Cattle Quota, Sheep Quota, Cattle Breeds, Sheep Breeds, Ear Tags, Options. You can also record your Country, Fax No, Mobile No, E-mail Address, Farm Assurance Renewal Date, and Intervention Board Registration No.

‘Setup’ ‘System Setup’ ‘Locations at which Animals are Kept’ ‘Locations on the farm’ - A new location within the holding which can be recorded for any cattle. The program will automatically add a location for every field you have added through the IACS part of the program. You can add new locations such as sheds if you wish. To put animals in a particular location use the ‘Setup’ ‘System Setup’ ‘Locations’ ‘Move animals from one location to another (within the farm)’ option. You can leave the ‘from’ blank so that you can put animals which don’t currently have a location into one. This location within the farm is for your use and does not have anything to do with the ‘holding’ location which appears in your movement book. There is a new report so that you can report on cattle at a particular location ‘Reports’ ‘Cattle’ ‘Cattle at a particular location’. Cattle locations on the farm are displayed on the cattle update screens. Management groups do not have a location associated with them now.

‘Setup’ ‘System Setup’ ‘Locations at which Animals are Kept’ ‘Tidy locations’ is a option to tidy the holding names recorded on the system. Make sure you have a backup as this is a powerful and potentially destructive feature.

‘Medicine Cupboard’ ‘Record the Purchase of new Drugs or Chemicals’ option now puts drugs used at the top of the list making them easier to select next time a purchase is recorded. You are also asked if you would like to record another purchase of medicine, to save having to reselect the menu item if multiple purchases need to be recorded.
